Our church has been and remains a community where new stories are being written for people’s lives each week. Stories of marriages saved and strengthened. Stories of addictions being broken. Stories of emotional healing and hope restored. But life isn’t just a story of victories, but rather a culmination of experiences that God uses to shape us into who we are. Our name captures that both sides of your story matter and everyday is another opportunity to live your story and begin life again. Where Life Begins Again is more than a slogan for us. Where Life Begins Again is an invitation for people to experience second, third, fourth, and fifth chances in their faith, their relationships, and with their God-given purpose. It’s a challenge to each of us to pursue God daily and start each day with a new mindset leaving behind the past and pressing onward each day toward God’s purpose for our lives. Our hope is that Storyside would continue to be a place where people feel safe, encouraged, and challenged to daily pursue God’s purpose for all areas of their lives. “Both sides of the story matter. Sometimes even the smallest stop in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must but take the step forward.

Forward - Toward the front or the future.
Matthew 11:12 - Since the time John the Baptizer came until now, God's kingdom has been going forward strongly. And people have been trying to take control of it by force.
1 Samuel 17:16 - The Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand.

Forward - Toward the front or the future.
Philippians 3

Exodus 14 - The angel of God that had been leading the camp of Israel now shifted and got behind them. And the Pillar of Cloud that had been in front also shifted to the rear.
- When we replay the past, we miss out on the present and we sabotage the future.

3 Reasons People Settle
1. People settle when they get sentimentally attached to a past season of their life.
2. People settle in a place of relational wounds.
Genesis 11
27 - This is the history of Terah's family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran was the father of Lot.
28 - Haran died in his hometown, Ur of Babylonia, while his father Terah was still alive.
31 - Terah took his family and left Ur of Babylonia. They planned to travel to Canaan. Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran's son), and his daughter - in - law Sarai (Abram's wife). They traveled to the city of Haran and decided to stay there.
32 - Terah lived to be 205 years old. He died in Haran.
When you are offended or wounded relationally, it may seem justified to nurse the wound, to rehearse the injustice. You may have a right and good reason to be hurt. But anger will eventually consume you, and bitterness will destroy you if you let it. The best thing to do is to forgive those people and move on.

Sometimes we think our circumsances need to change, but actually it's our perspective that needs to change.
When you get a better lens you will be able to see further and clearer.
A better lens will reveal more of God's goodness and favor in your life.
The favor of God is impartial from one persons to the next but not compativle to everyone's attitude and mindset.
1 Peter 1:13 - "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;"
We do not attract what we want. We attract what we are.
Seeing God's goodness today is the key to experiencing more of God's favor in the future.

What If?
The path of favor is not always on the mountaintops, it also winds through the valley.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. When you see your life through the lens of God's favor, you see God's goodness in the midst of life's hardship.
The presence of problems doesn't mean the absence of God.
A good life, like a good book, is made up of many chapters.
A Chapter is a chapter ..... it's not the story.
You don't decide all the chapters of your life, but how you frame them decides your story.
Genesis 50:20 - You plotted evil against me, but God turned it into good, in order to preserve the lives of many people who are alive today because of what happened.

"Good Good Father"
Matthew 7:11 - If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
Luke 15:11 - Then Jesus said, "A man had two sons. 12 - The younger son said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the property.' So the father divided his property between his two sons. 13 - "After a few days, the younger son gathered his possessions and left for a country far away from home. There he wasted everything he had on a wild lifestyle. 14 - He had nothing left when a severe famine spread throughout that country. He had nothing to live on. 15 - So he got a job from someone in that country and was sent to feed pigs in the fields. 16 - No one in the country would give him any food, and he was so hungry that he would have eaten what the pigs were eating. 17 - "Finally, he came to his senses. He said, ' How many of my father's hired men have more food than they can eat, while I'm starving to death here? 18 - I'll go at once to my father, and I'll say to him, "Father, I've sinned against heaven and you. 19 - I don't deserve to be called your son anymore. Make me one of your hired men.'" 20 - "So he went at once to his father. While he was still at a distance, his father saw him and felt sorry for him. He ran to his son, put his arms around him, and kissed him. 21 - Then his son said to him, 'Father, I've sinned against heaven and you. I don't deserve to be called your son anymore.' 22 - "The father said to his servants, 'Hurry! Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 - Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let's celebrate with a feast. 24 - My son was dead and has come back to life. He was lost but has been found.' Then they began to celebrate.

"God is in the Good"
When you hear negative, you will ultimately see negative.
Luke 2:10 - Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
Luke 4:17 - and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18-19 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
Deuteronomy 30
2 and when you and your children return to the Lord you God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today,
3 then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you.

God is in the Good!
Good is no longer separated but it is now synonymous with God!
You start to recognize God in places you didn't see Him before!

"Open Doors"
Luke 5
36 He told them this parable: "No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old.
37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined".

7 Write this to Philadelphia, to the Angel of the church. The Holy, the True - David's key in his hand, opening doors no one can lock, locking doors no one can open - speaks:
8 "I see what you've done. Now see what I've done. I've opened a door before you that no one can slam shut. You don't have much strength, I know that; you used what you had to keep my Word. You didn't deny me when times were rough".

1 Kings 18:41-44
41 - Then Elijah said to Ahab, "Go get something to eat and drink, for I hear a mighty rainstorm coming!"
42 - So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees.
43 - Then he said to his servant, "Go and look out toward the sea." The servant went and looked, then returnd to Elijah and said, "I didn't see anything." Seven times Elijah told him to go and look.
44 - Finally the seventh time, his servant told him, "I saw a little cloud about the size of a man's hand rising from the sea."
Everything is affected by a drought.
Elijah prayed.
